Singapore Airlines bans mile-high love on superjumbo
31/10/2007
Air travellers hoping to join the mile-high club on Singapore Airlines new superjumbo have had their hopes dashed in a statement from the carrier.
The A380 plane, which embarked on its maiden voyage this week, is fitted with suites with luxurious double beds on its upper level – ostensibly offering plenty of opportunity for some in-flight passion .
However, a statement issued by the firm indicates that staff will be taking a zero-tolerance approach to over-excited couples expressing their love.
The statement, which was seen by the Reuters news agency, said: "All we ask of customers, wherever they are on our aircraft, is to observe standards that don't cause offence to other customers and crew.
"Nothing different applies for our Singapore Airlines Suites customers."
Julie Elwood, who travelled with her husband in one the suites on the plane's inaugural trip, gave the carrier short shrift over its attitude.
She told the Times: "They seem to have done everything they can to make it romantic, short of bringing round oysters. I'd say they shouldn't really complain, should they?"
