Ski insurance saves radio DJ from huge bill

14/01/2008

A US radio personality has escaped a potentially ruinously expensive medical bill thanks to her foresight in taking out travel insurance.

Emily Jade O'Keefe, who hosts shows on top-rating station Nova 106.9, suffered horrendous injuries while on a romantic ski break in Canada with her husband.

The DJ came a cropper when her ski became caught up while she was heading down the slopes.

Emily told Qconfidential: "I was on a blue run and the ski lodged itself in a mogul and my body kept moving and twisting."

As a result she suffered cruciate ligament damage and is now facing reconstructive surgery and up to nine months of rehabilitation.

However, total disaster was averted because Emily had been careful to take a comprehensive travel insurance policy.

She said: "Lucky for us our insurance covered everything and they were wonderful.

"They organised business-class flights from Canada because I couldn't bend my leg."

News of the findings come as a number of ski insurance providers have this year been moved to issue warnings to skiers to take out extensive cover since hospital bills for ski injuries can be extremely high.
