Tell O"Leary "Keep your travel insurance"
19/05/2009
Since so-called 'low-cost' airline Ryanair has introduced even more ludicrous charges, it's good to know that one thing you don't need to buy from the audacious carrier is its over-priced travel insurance.
Holiday insurance is included in the ever-growing list of 'optional extras' passengers can buy from Ryanair when they book their flights ? but it's cheaper and just as easy to buy your travel insurance online from insurewithease.com instead.
Airline boss Michael O'Leary has often boasted that the airline could one day make more money from selling ancillary products ? such as holiday insurance, food and drinks and scratch cards ? than it does from airfares.
No need for you to add to his peripheral profits, however. Take your own picnic (he hasn't yet started charging passengers to eat their own food on his flights), travel light to avoid the increased baggage charges (see below) and buy your own travel insurance from insurewithease.
Ryanair this week doubled its baggage charges ? up from £5 to £10 per flight for the first bag and £20 for a second and third piece of luggage ? and scrapped airport check-in, forcing customers to pay £5 to check in online. They must print out their own boarding pass too, or pay £40 if they turn up at the airport without one.
