Thousands of holidaymakers affected by collapse of Goldtrail Holidays

19/07/2010

The budget travel operator, Goldtrail Holidays went into administration on Friday, leaving hundreds of travellers stranded at the airport without a holiday to go to. Goldtrail Holidays specialised in cheap package holidays to Turkey and Greece. An estimated 50,000 holidaymakers are due to be affected by the collapse of the company.

Hundreds turned up for their flights on Friday, only to discover they had been cancelled due to Goldtrail Holidays' demise. Some holidaymakers have had to face the grim prospect of going without a holiday because they can't afford to fork out hundreds of pounds for another one. Others that had booked flights with Goldtrail and package holidays with another company had to try to find the funds to pay for new flights or risk losing the money they'd spent on their accommodation.

All outbound flights booked through Goldtrail Holidays have now been cancelled, but the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is assuring people who are already in Turkey that their flights home will still go ahead. But holidaymakers flying home from Greece should expect disruption to their flights.

People on Goldtrail trips in Greece and Turkey have been reporting on their holidays from hell. Many hoteliers are out of pocket due to the collapse of Goldtrail Holidays, and some are demanding payment from guests that have already paid for their holidays. Some hotels have stopped giving food and water to all-inclusive guests until they cough up the payments, and guests are even being threatened by a visit from the police if they don't comply.

It's no real surprise that Goldtrail Holidays has gone into administration. In the past, visitors have complained about poor hygiene in hotels, and nine holidaymakers sued them after they caught Legionnaires' disease from hotel showers. They were also fined for making last minute changes to flights and accommodation.

It's now down to the CAA to clean up the mess left by Goldtrail Holidays. Anyone that has been affected by the collapse of the budget holiday provider can contact the CAA on 0203 4410846 for more information.
