Toddler tantrums cause expensive home repairs
21/08/2008
Toddlers and their tantrums are causing parents to have to fork out millions of pounds a year in repair work, one expert has said.
According to a report by Abbey, British adults spend over £552 million on a yearly basis righting the wrong their tearaways have wreaked in the home.
The figures raise the issue of home insurance, which in some cases includes accidental damage clauses that could cover the costs for money-savvy mums and dads.
Furthermore, the study revealed that kids aged between one and five-years-old are more of a hazard to the house than any other age group.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, boys emerged as the real home wreckers as they were twice as destructive as their female counterparts.
Tony Beckwith, head of Santander Insurance UK, explained: "Dealing with the damage caused by children can be inconvenient, costly and cause unwanted tension if people do not have the appropriate level of insurance cover."
In related news, home insurance provider Direct Line reports that Britons have invested around £3,299 on home improvements over the last three years.
The firm urged homeowners to safeguard these modifications to their properties with a good insurance policy and contents cover.
