Tourism Australia to link up with Luhrmann

09/10/2007

The Australian tourist board has approached leading director Baz Luhrmann with a view to collaborating on a marketing campaign.

Sources from Tourism Australia told that the campaign will tie in with the director's forthcoming movie Australia - an epic romance starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman.

It is hoped that the theme of the film and the way it presents the country will bring in visitors who have not been swayed by the rough and ready charms of the existing "Where the Bloody Hell Are You?" campaign.

A source told the Age: "Romance and adventure aren't necessarily the way that we have portrayed Australia in the past."

The forthcoming movie is set in the years just before World War II and tells the story of a love affair between an English aristocrat and an Australian cattle drover. It was shot largely on location in Western Australia and Queensland.

Luhrmann's other movies include Moulin Rouge, Strictly Ballroom and Romeo and Juliet.
