Travel insurance policies now covering terrorism
02/10/2007
Demand for travel insurance that covers loss of life, property or injury from terrorism has prompted more and more policy providers to include it in their policies, it has been claimed.
According to report in the Times, around half of British firms now offer travel insurance cover with provisions for terrorism-related losses.
Malcolm Tarling of the Association of British Insurers said: "Five or ten years ago it would have been very unlikely that insurance companies would provide cover in the event of terrorism, but there is growing demand for it.
"There is an increasing availability of terrorism cover among travel insurers, with over half now providing it as standard, so if injured you will receive medical treatment and/or be repatriated."
However, Mr Tarling warned that policies are still unlikely to cover the cost of cancelling a holiday in the event of the country being declared unsafe by the Foreign Office.
