Travel packages to 2010 World Cup expected to sell-out in days
08/12/2009
Tour operators that have put together packages to the FIFA World Cup in South Africa next summer say they expect to have sold all tours to England matches by the end of this week.
Fans have been scrambling to buy tickets since the World Cup draw that placed England in a first-round group with Algeria, Slovenia and the USA.
Tui Travel Sport (www.thomsonsport.com) and Thomas Cook Sport (www.thomascooksport.com), both official tour operators for the World Cup, have already sold out of their whole tournament packages that include every England game and the final.
Tui Travel has 10,000 packages to England matches remaining, which cost from £2,500 to £5,000 each. Thomas Cook Sport's packages to England matches start at £2,389 to see England play the USA.
Thomas Cook Sport has just one place remaining on its tour that includes all England's group stage games. It costs £4,999 including match tickets, flights, 17-nights hotel accommodation and transfers.
Thomas Cook Sport is this week pushing its seven-night Football Experience packages that cost from £3,225 per person and include flights, accommodation, transfers and one ticket to an unspecified match.
As these packages don't guarantee tickets to an England game they are likely to be harder to sell, so Thomas Cook is offering an incentive in the shape of a full refund if England wins the tournament and Wayne Rooney is the top scorer.
And the odds? A mere 24-1. Fans must book packages by the end of this month to qualify for the money-back offer.
