Turkey to be a "hotspot in 2008"
28/01/2008
Turkey is set to be one of the hot destinations this year with an expected four per cent rise in tourism.
An estimated 25 million people will visit the country this year, according to ShelterOffshore.com.
Turkey is the fourth most popular destination for package bookings so far this year, only beaten by France, Spain and Greece, says the Association of British travel Agents.
One factor may be that more low cost airlines are flying into the country, for example Easyjet will soon start flying from Dalaman Airport, commented Rhiannon Williamson, director of ShelterOffShore.com
"The World travel and Tourism Council estimates that between now and 2017 there will be at least an average four per cent growth in tourism arrivals in Turkey annually, " said Ms Williamson.
Many holidaymakers are choosing to make it more than two weeks in the sun, with 17,000 British people owning property in Turkey, according to official figures in the Guardian.
