Virgin tops child-friendly airlines

12/02/2008

Virgin Atlantic has been voted the most child-friendly airline, with budget airlines being rated the worst, according to the Rough Guide.

The airline got 36 per cent of people's votes, followed closely by British Airways with 32 per cent in the survey carried out by the book publisher Rough Guides.

Ryanair got just two per cent of the vote and easyJet faired almost as badly with eight per cent.

The main concern, found by the study, was being able to carry and pack everything that children need.

Budget airlines charging for each item of baggage may explain why they scored so low.

Fawzia Rasheed de Francisco, author of The Rough Guide to travel with Babies and Young Children, said that budget airlines also tend to have faraway gates which can be harder to get to with children.

"There's also the fact that budget airlines make it hard … to change plans without buying new tickets; when you factor the cost implications for a whole family, the so-called budget tickets can work out to be more expensive in the long run, " she told TravelMole.
