Warnings of baggage delays in Madrid: Travel insurance can help
07/11/2012
On the day that passengers are being warned of an increased risk of baggage delays due to strike action, we're talking about travel insurance cover for lost and delayed baggage.
Passengers flying in to or out of Madrid this weekend are being encouraged to reduce the amount of checked-in luggage they take with them. This is due to a strike by baggage handlers which is expected to cause delays of up to two hours for passengers arriving at the airport and waiting for their bags.
Easyjet says that although disruption so far has been minimal, they expect the larger number of passengers over the weekend to bring an increased risk of passenger bags failing to connect with their flight.
Travel insurance cover for delayed or lost baggage
If your bag does fail to connect with your flight on your outbound journey your travel insurance may be able to help.
Travel insurance from insurewithease.com provides cover up to £500 (Platinum policies) to help you cover the cost of purchasing replacement clothing and toiletries if your bags are delayed by more than 24 hours on your outbound journey.
In order to make a claim for delayed baggage on your travel insurance you will need to obtain a written report from your airline or tour operator confirming the delay and keep the receipts of the replacement items that you purchased.
If your bag fails to turn up altogether you will need to obtain a Property Irregularity Report from your airline and make a claim under the Personal Possessions section of your travel insurance policy.
