When will I be able to travel abroad again?

21/05/2020

It’s the question everyone is asking, when will I be able to go on holiday again?

The quick answer is that nobody knows, the UK government is currently still advising against all but essential travel, and until that changes nobody should be travelling to another country on holiday.

However, hope is on the horizon, as individual countries such as Spain, Italy and Greece, as well as the EU are making plans for how they can start to welcome tourists again this summer.

The UK government is also talking about the idea of introducing ‘air bridges’, to exempt countries with a low coronavirus infection rate from the planned 14-day quarantine.  This is widely being seen as a way to enable some foreign holidays this summer.

Great deals and flexibility for winter sun and 2021

With much uncertainty surrounding when we will be able to travel again, many travel providers are being extremely flexible with their terms and conditions and offering great deals to give you the confidence to plan for a holiday in the future.

Hayes and Jarvis, for example, will allow you to change your travel plans with no amendment fee up to 7 days before departure. They are also offering £200 off per person for 2021 holidays.

For families, TUI are offering thousands of free kids places for 2021, there’s even a handy tool to help you find the holidays with free kids places easily.

Hays Travel are offering a ‘peace of mind’ guarantee where you can cancel your holiday for whatever reason you like up to 6 weeks beforehand and get your money back if you decide you don’t want to go.

How to protect your money when you book

It’s broadly expected that holidays will become more expensive after this pandemic, so planning ahead and booking a holiday now for the winter or summer 2021 could get you a great deal.

If you do choose to book a holiday now and give yourself something to look forward to, we recommend booking a package holiday from an ABTA or ATOL bonded provider.  That way if, you are unable to travel on your holiday due to government advice, you will be entitled to move your holiday to another date or destination, or have a full refund.

What about travel insurance?

Of course, if you do book a holiday, you should also buy travel insurance. If you book a holiday and then have to move it, we can also move your single trip travel insurance to the new dates, up to the end of December 2021.  There will be no admin charge to move your travel insurance policy, but if your new trip is more than 12 months from the amendment date, or for different destination or duration there may be an additional premium to reflect this.
