03/06/2013

As the Foreign Office warns of flood risk across Central Europe we're talking about the travel insurance cover available if your holiday is affected by extreme weather.

Flood waters are continuing to rise across central Europe, causing disruption to transport and thousands of people to flee their homes - areas of Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic have been affected.

The Czech Republic has declared a state of emergency across the region of Bohemia and the Mayor of Prague is advising against unnecessary travel to Prague until the State of Emergency is lifted.

The Foreign Office is advising British Nationals to check the latest situation with local authorities or with their tour operator before travelling.

How can travel insurance help in the event of floods and extreme weather?

Your travel insurance may be able to help if your holiday is adversely affected by flooding or other extreme weather. Insurewithease.com provides the following travel insurance cover in these circumstances;

If your outbound or return flight is delayed for more than 12 hours due to adverse whether you may be able to make a claim for travel delay. Travel delay takes the form of a benefit which is designed to help cover the cost of extra food and drink whilst you wait at the airport.

In addition to this, if your outbound flight is delayed for more than 24 hours by adverse weather you can choose to abandon your holiday and make a claim to recoup the cost.

If you are already away when extreme weather strikes the Catastrophe Cover section of your policy may be able to help. Catastrophe cover is designed to provide cover for additional, irrecoverable travel or accommodation costs if you are forced to move from your pre-paid, pre-booked holiday accommodation as a result of unforeseen events such as flood, fire, earthquake, hurricane and medical epidemic.

Catastrophe cover is intended to enable you to continue your holiday in alternative accommodation, or if that's not possible, return to the UK early.

Insurewithease.com includes travel delay, abandonment and catastrophe cover in all of its single trip and annual travel insurance policies. Check your policy wording for full details.

For additional cover for cancellation or additional transport/accommodation expenses caused by natural catastrophes including floods, hurricanes, earthquakes and volcanic ash consider adding Natural Catastrophe Cover to your travel insurance policy.
