Young Brits are being lured by the prospect of dream jobs in Australia
10/08/2010
Last year, Ben Southall was the envy of us Brits when he won the 'Best Job in the World' competition to become the caretaker of the beautiful Hamilton Island. His experience wasn't all plain sailing and they worked him to the ground, but he still managed to have an unforgettable time. The idea behind the competition was to raise awareness of tourism in Australia and it did just that - 34,000 people applied for the dream job.
In February this year a competition was launched by Travelbag called the Extraordinary Taxi Ride, where entrants would have the chance to become part of a two month trip across Western Australia. Most travellers visit Eastern Australia because they don't know what is on offer in Western Australia. The Extraordinary Taxi Ride is designed to raise awareness of tourism in the area.
The Australian government is now trying to lure bored Brits away from their keyboards with the prospect of more accessible dream jobs in Australia. A survey has indicated that two thirds of us are bored or dissatisfied with our jobs.
The new campaign is targeting Brits between the ages of 18 and 30 to show them that Australia can offer them a better working life. Rather than offering just one job, like the 'Best Job in the World' campaign did, this new initiative has multiple jobs available to unskilled Britons.
Dream jobs in Australia that are up for grabs include koala catchers and shark tagging, and rather appealing beer tasting jobs. You could also become a fairy penguin home remodeler, a shark tagger or a 'roo poo' harvester!
The campaign will offer Brits a 12 month working visa and the possibility of emigrating in exchange for one of many dream jobs in Australia that are available. So leave your keyboard and work station behind and get out there to experience the delights of Australia!
