Young travellers choosing cottage holidays
08/11/2007
More and more young travellers are opting for cottage-based holidays, it has been revealed.
According to new data from Marsden's Cottage Holidays, the proportion of young holidaymakers has this year outweighed bookings from over-50s - the first time this has happened for 35 years.
Peter Cornwell of Marsden's Cottage Holidays attributed the phenomenon to the fact that younger people are leaving increasingly stressful lives, with cottage holidays providing the perfect, tranquil escape.
Moreover, by opting for a UK location for their break, they find can avoid the queues associated with air travel, he said.
"There are many reasons why cottage holidays are becoming increasingly popular with young professionals, but mainly we are told it is because it allows them to relax and enjoy their holiday, from start to finish," Mr Cornwell claims.
"With most professionals having to endure a nightmare daily commute, the idea of starting off a holiday [and finishing it] by turning up to the airport to face an endless check in queue, hours of waiting to get through the security and immigration checks or a cancelled flight is a huge turn off."
