Youngsters booking holidays online
27/09/2007
Youthful travellers and backpackers are increasingly opting to book their holidays online, a new survey has revealed.
According to recent figures from the World Youth and Student Educational Travel Confederation showed that 50 per cent of young people now organise their holidays via the internet.
This compares to ten per cent just five years ago when internet access was less widespread, Travelmole reports.
The survey also revealed that the theory that travel broadens the mind holds true, with 80 per cent of respondents saying that their trip had fostered an appreciation of other cultures.
Meanwhile, chief among the reasons for embarking on travels were learning a new language and the chance to do voluntary work.
Australia, Thailand, the US and France remain the most popular destinations for young travellers, the survey also revealed.
